The book “First Pakistani in Norway in 1970” is published. according to author, it was a critical phase of Immigration from Pakistan to Norway in 1970-73. the book is a critical sociological analysis of 1970s’ labor immigration from Pakistan to this nordic country. The book gives a vivid description of Norway that met the first “foreign workers” and the adaptation strategies.
The book is an edited version of Aud Korbøl’s dissertation which was not available to the public earlier. It shows how the Norwegian state, the trade union movement, the workforce and the media handled what was considered a massive pressure on borders. Many of the questions raised by Korbøl still characterize the public debate on immigration and integration. The book would be properly launched in a ceremony on 11 October at LiLitteraturhuset in Oslo.
